Sara Blanken’s Mesure: Redefining womenswear with purpose and precision”

Sara Blanken didn’t just want to design clothes—she wanted to reshape an industry. With years of experience in menswear and marketing and an in-depth understanding of the fashion industry’s environmental impact, she saw a clear opportunity: made-to-measure womenswear. What started as a vision to reduce waste and create clothing that truly fits turned into Mesure—a growing brand that helps women feel confident, seen, and empowered in garments made just for them. Through community, creativity, and a sharp business sense, Sara shares how she turned her idea into a movement.

From Insight to Impact

“When working at a made-to-measure menswear company for several years, I noticed the gap in the market when it comes to tailored clothing for women. With studies and prior experience in the fashion industry, I was aware of the industry’s significant environmental impact. I wanted to make a change.

Through the menswear company, I learned about on-demand production (producing only when ordered) and saw how this approach is a solution to waste and overproduction in the fashion industry. And also — creating something on the measurements of a customer makes a garment that is truly personal and lasts forever.”

Building a Brand From the Ground Up

“I immediately started by asking anyone in my surroundings who had set up businesses before or were experts in a specific area. For example, I asked a friend who is a finance expert to help me with the financial plan. I asked the father of my friend, who had successfully sold his business, to help with the business plan. I asked another one to help with the branding and logo, etc. I learned early on that network is everything — you cannot do everything by yourself.

As every entrepreneur probably, my first customers were friends and family. However, with my marketing background (I was the Head of Marketing at a made-to-measure womenswear brand), I know how to run ads and set up effective campaigns. So, I quickly started with that: running ads on Instagram and Google. I also worked with many influencers, which helped as well. After that, magazines began to cover the story and write about it.

Now, I have a loyal customer base that comes back frequently or refers others. When women wear something that’s truly custom-made and fits them perfectly, other people notice it.”

Confidence in Every Stitch

“The biggest mistake in the beginning was probably money-wise — spending too much on things that I could do for less. But you learn quickly when it comes to that. A sound cash flow projection is also key. I would advise every entrepreneur to start with that.

Making so many women so happy in their clothes. I recently received feedback from a customer that she regained her confidence. It shows that when you wear something that’s made to your measurements, fits well, and is made of a high-quality fabric, you feel more empowered.

Just do it! It sounds simple, but it’s really about taking the first step. You never know how it will turn out, so just go for it. Additionally, create a solid financial plan for yourself.

As we speak, we have just launched our made-to-measure jeans, an exhilarating step and product. Additionally, we plan to relocate to a larger location in 2026. Stay tuned…”
